Lois was an astute and fiercely independent woman who valued family, relationships and conversation. Born on August 21, 1924 in Coalgate, Oklahoma to the Hedgecock family, she married Homer Thompson on February 20, 1943. Together they migrated to the Heritage Valley area of California where they raised five children and began a prolific family tree of their own. A woman of strong resolve, Lois centered her life around her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren and all of her extended family and friends who reside throughout many states.
She greatly enjoyed baking and cooking for others. She will always be remembered for her delicious pies, cobblers, biscuits and gravy.
Lois is lovingly remembered by her children, Ken (La Nell) Thompson of Ventura, Donna (Bill) Murphy of Port Hueneme, Pam (Steve) Goyeneche of Ventura, and Tricia (Bill) Peters of Camarillo; her grandchildren, Katie Ward, Paul Thompson, Jennifer Walker, Sandy Thornton, Melanie Ely, Tony Pena, Jenelle Pena, Dianne Zoll, Joe Goyeneche and Amy Thompson; 10 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren.
Lois’ wish in passing is for all who knew and loved her to heed the following poem by an anonymous poet.
Don’t spend too much
Time in mourning,
Tears are for the sad
I left to be with Jesus
And this should make you glad.
Don’t waste your hours in grieving,
No need to feel distress.
I’m tired of life’s frustrations,
And had to get some rest
Don’t vex yourself with questions,
Or try to reason why,
Life here for me has ended,
It came my time to die.
Don’t lose the love I gave you,
Feed it with your care.
Grow it with devotion,
And spread it everywhere.
Don’t fret because my leaving
Came in such a way,
We’ll have another meeting,
In God’s eternal day.
