She was born March 12, 1920 in Newton, Kansas, daughter of Jesse Tanner and Lottie Geabhart. She was one of eleven girls.
Juanita enlisted in the Women’s Army Corps in September of 1942 and served in many areas of the United States during WW II. She was a Sergeant. She graduated from Kansas State Chiropractic College in Wichita in 1949 and practiced for a few years. In 1957 she took training as a Tax Examiner for the IRS in Los Angeles and then in 1962 she moved to Ventura. She retired from the IRS after 23 1/2 years in 1974.
Juanita was an active member of The American Legion Post 339, the Eastern Star Chapter 79, and was a member and past president of the Ventura Emblem Club. She was very active in the First Baptist Church in Newton, Kansas and Ventura until 2007. She bowled in several leagues and belonged to the Good Sam Travel Club.
Juanita was married twice before being married to Leo R. Proulx of Ventura, in October 1972, until his death in 1979. Steve Kinka was Juanita’s companion from 1982 until his death in 2004.
Surviving are Virginia Thomas (Step-daughter) of Ventura, Barbara Vaughan (Larry), Terry Thomas, Roger Thomas (Sue), Richard Allen (Sharon), Ronald Gudgeon (Diane) and many great grandchildren. Son, David, Bertholf (Barbara) of Kansas, grandsons Sean (Laura), Patrick (Heather) and their children. Also sisters, Joan Bernowich, Dorothy Schmidt, and Darleen Morris of Kansas and many nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held 11:00 A.M., Friday, September 16, 2011 at Ivy Lawn Memorial Park, 5400 Valentine Road, Ventura.
