Lifelong Ventura resident, Joanne M. (Hewston) Stibor was born in Ventura, on November 16, 1940, to Henry and Louise Hewston. After a four month battle with illnesses, she died peacefully on Saturday, February 15, 2014, with her daughter by her side.
Joanne knew early on she wanted to be a nurse and started out as a candy striper in her youth. She went on to Knapp College of Nursing in Santa Barbara, and later obtaining her Bachelors degree. She was employed at Ventura County Medical Center for 52 years where she worked just about every department at VCMC. Although Joanne was officially retired, she continued working part time in the education department up until October of 2013, as her passion was teaching. Joanne taught classes and was part of faculty for the American Heart Association.
Her nursing career and family were her passion and her loves. Joanne enjoyed traveling, going on cruises, traveling by car, and the last several years loved to travel by train to see her granddaughter and four great grandchildren.
Joanne was preceded in death by her husband of 38 years, Frank Stibor, Jr., as well as her brother, Bill Hewston.
She is survived by her daughter, Teresa Knotwell and son-in- law, Bruce Flesher both of Ventura; two granddaughters, Erica and Debra; four great grandchildren; brother, Michael Hewston, and his wife, Pam both of Lake Naciemento, CA, their two children Yasmin and Brandon; as well as her brother, Bill’s children, Darren, Marc and Tammy and several great nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service will take place at Ted Mayr Funeral Home, 3150 Loma Vista Road, Ventura, CA 93003, on Sunday, February 23, 2014, 2:00 P.M., with The Reverend Dan Hull officiating,
