Jay Nehlsen, age 59, of Ventura, died Tuesday, November 1, 2011, at home following a long illness. He was born June 29, 1952, in Oxnard and had lived in Ventura since 1958. He attended Poinsettia School, Anacapa Middle School, and graduated from Buena High School in 1971.
Jay worked as a self-employed car mechanic for many years. For the last 15 years he worked in the oil industry, most recently as an oiler on the Carpinteria Pier for Venoco Oil. Jay was also a long-time hobbyist and mechanic on Mopar autos. He was known for his ability to fix cars, his loyalty to his friends, and his love of animals.
He is survived by his parents, William and Dorothy Nehlsen of Camarillo; his uncle, Clark Hoffman, of Camarillo; and his sister, Dr. Willa Nehlsen, of South Deerfield, Massachusetts.
Funeral services will be held 2:30 p.m., Saturday, November 12 , 2011, at the Ted Mayr Funeral Home, 3150 Loma Vista Road, Ventura, with his sister, Dr. Willa Nehlsen officiating.
