Jan entered the church triumphant Monday, September 22, 2010. She was born November 14, 1942 in Bell Gardens, Calif. Her mother, Margaret Marie Smith, and father, Joseph T. Bandy, were glad to see what a beautiful baby she was.
Jan gave her mother many mountaintop experiences as she actively grew through childhood. Throughout her childhood, Jan dreamed of becoming a nurse. First, she became a licensed vocational nurse, and then a senior registered nurse. She loved nursing, and worked as a medical surgical nurse throughout her career.
However, nursing alone was not enough to keep her high-energy lifestyle filled, so she became an officer in the local district and conference of United Methodist Women. She also participated in Clover Leaf Rebekah Lodge #207 with her mother, chancel choir, English hand bells, and regular church activities. She could be a tough advocate for issues she felt strongly about, and a sensitive listener when understanding and kindness were called for.
Jan was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to Gary Brown. She is survived by her husband, “Swabby”; son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Connie Scolman; daughter and son-in-law, Sandy and Kurt Keeler; grandchildren, Diana Keeler, Kindra Scolman, and Sadie Frowiss and her husband, Matt; great-grandchildren, Natalie and Novalee Frowiss; and her beloved kitty, Gabby.
Jan will be joining her great-granddaughter, Laticia, as she watches over us.
Services to celebrate Jan’s life will be 2 p.m., Saturday, October 2, 2010 in the Ojai Unified Methodist Church sanctuary, 120 Church Rd., Ojai, with Pastor John Robison officiating. A reception will follow in the fellowship hall.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Ted Mayr Funeral Home and Crematory, 3150 Loma Vista Rd., Ventura. Condolences may be left at www.TedMayrFuneralHome.com.
