Jana Gail West

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the death of our beloved Jana Gail West. Jana, 71, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by friends and family on Thursday, September 18, 2014, after a valiant fight against cancer.

Jana was born in Ventura, California on January 20, 1943 and spent her entire life in Ventura County. After graduating from Ventura Junior College, she smittenly married the love of her life, Wayne A. West.

She diligently supported her husband as he attended Cal Poly State University. Soon thereafter, the two of them took the reins of the Ojai Locker Market. As a successful businesswoman, Jana juggled the awesome responsibilities of both being a mother and homemaker.

Throughout life, Jana always carried with her a glowing smile and a willingness to listen to others. Her zest for life and ability to communicate life’s blessings to those around her were innate traits that she molded throughout her time here on earth.

Jana loved traveling, gardening, home decorating, card games and the variety of activities upon which her four grandchildren participated.

Jana is preceded in death by her father, Raymond Jim Cain, mother, Leola Cain and step mother, Patricia Cain. She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Wayne West; daughter, Dana Hurley (Chase); and son, David West (Jennifer). Jana is affectionately known as "Grandy” to her four beautiful grandchildren, Morgan and Mackenzie Hurley and Hailey and Spencer West.

Following a private burial with family, all are invited to attend a Memorial Service at the Ojai Presbyterian Church, 304 North Foothill Road, on Saturday, September 27, 2014, 11:30 am, in which we will all celebrate Jana’s ascension into her new life in heaven. A luncheon reception will follow in the adjacent fellowship hall.

In lieu of flowers, Jana would appreciate a donation to one of her favorite charities; either the American Heart Association or the Wounded Warriors Project.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Ted Mayr Funeral Home, 3150 Loma Vista Road, Ventura.
