Dorothy Jane Bell went home to be with our Lord and Savior on Tuesday, March 25, 2014. She passed away unexpectedly surrounded by her loving family. Dorothy was born to Sophie Souza and Charles McKay on June 8, 1933, in a plantation hospital on Oahu, Territory of Hawaii. She was a Pearl Harbor Survivor and came to the "mainland" during World War II. In 1944, she and her mother came to Port Hueneme to join her father, who was in the Army. Dorothy and her mother joined Oxnard First Baptist Church, where in 1953 she met James Bell. They were married in 1954. They had three children, Larry, Vickie and Debbie. Dorothy worked at her church as secretary / bookkeeper for 31 years. She always liked to tell stories about the "old days" in Hueneme working in the old Hueneme Movie Theater that was in a Quonset hut and the old Bank of Hueneme on Market Street. Dorothy devoted her life to God and her family. She doted on her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and countless "adopted" friends of all her children. She was lovingly referred to as Ma Bell, Grandma, G-ma and GG. She enjoyed attending all of the dance recitals, school programs, graduations, but her favorites were the little league games beginning with son Larry and continuing through the years to the last two games she was able to attend of Jeffery Jr. and James. She was a die-hard Dodger fan. She didn't let anything keep her from watching or listening to her Dodgers play. Dorothy is survived by her loving son Larry Bell; daughters Vickie Sutton (Gary) and Debbie Young (David); grandchildren; Jamie Bell (Chrystal); Jeffery Millott (Paula); Teresa Dixon (James); great-grandchildren: Karla, James and Sophie Bell; Taylor, Jeffery Jr., Isabella and Nathaniel Millott; Keira Jane and Marcus Dixon. Services for Dorothy will be Tuesday, April 1 at 10:00am at Grace Bible Church, 936 W. Fifth Street, Oxnard. Burial will follow immediately at Ivy Lawn Cemetery in Ventura. Visitation will be at Charles Carroll Funeral Home, 15 Teloma Drive, Ventura, on Monday March 31 from 4 - 8 pm.
Arrangements under the direction of Charles Carroll Funeral Home, Ventura, CA.
