Doris E. Keith Smith, 84, longtime Ventura County resident, passed away Monday, January 7, 2013. She was born February 10, 1928 to Irvin and Mildred G. (Knapp) Edelmann in Detroit, Michigan. Doris lived in Santa Monica, Woodland Hills and Canoga Park areas from 1946 until she located to Ventura in 1979.
Doris retired from Great Western Bank in 1990 after a career of forty years. Twenty seven of those years, Doris was with Security Pacific Bank as Branch Office Manager. Doris was past President of Woodland Hills Business and Professional Women’s Club, active in Tri-Valley District B.P.W., past President of Canoga Park Chamber of Commerce Women’s Division and instrumental in developing Canoga Park Miss America Beauty Pageant.
She was active in the First United Methodist Church in Ventura and United Methodist Women. She was a supporter of the David and Margaret Home, a volunteer with Family to Family Service and a participant in the Hilltopper’s Group. Doris was also active as an auxiliary member of Community Memorial Hospital, Caregiver’s Ministry, Alpha Omega Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi and “One Again” group in Ventura.
Doris enjoyed bowling, gardening and her involvement in community service. Her love for family and friends was deeply expressed.
She was preceded in death by her first husband in 1972, B. Lee Keith, Jr.
On Valentine’s Day in 1987 Doris married Charles C. “Chuck” Smith who survives her along with step-son, Hugh W. Smith (wife Sarah) of Tujunga, CA, step-grandchildren, Evan Smith and Emerson Smith; step-daughter, Cynthia H. Smith of Santee, CA; sister, Carol Young of Murrieta, CA; and brother-in-law, Garvin Smith of Ann Arbor, Michigan.
A memorial service will take place on Saturday, January 19, 2013, 1:00P.M. at the First United Methodist Church, 1338 East Santa Clara, Ventura, with the Reverend Charles Simmons officiating. Private inurnment will take place at Ivy Lawn Memorial Park, Ventura.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Ted Mayr Funeral Home, 3150 Loma Vista Road, Ventura.
