Daniel Mark Kral, age 77, passed away peacefully on December 1,2015 at his in Ventura, California after a lengthy and valiant battle against prostate cancer. Dan will always be remembered for his deeply-held faith in Jesus, commitment to his family, winning smile, corny jokes, his devotion to friends, and his knack for solving problems. Always willing to help others, Dan served as a deacon for the Ventura Missionary Church (VMC) for many years, was a 4'" grade Sunday school teacher, and thoroughly
enjoyed a couples' Bible study group for over 30 years. He served on the Senior Council for VMC, helping to plan many events for seniors, and was a leader in the effort to illuminate the large cross affixed to the face of the VMC building that overlooks Foothill Boulevard, a project very dear to his heart.
Dan was born on June 3, 1938, in Michigan, to Charles and Beatrice Kral who raised him in Santa Monica, California. After graduating from Santa Monica High School in 1956, he worked as a musician and started a career in the grocery business. After completing one year of business studies at Santa Monica College, he joined the United States Army in 1960 and served until 1962. He returned to California and graduated from San Fernando Valley State College (now CSU Northridge) with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration in January of 1967.
After asking for Carole Day's hand in marriage, he married his loving wife on May 25, 1968, beginning more than 47 years together. They were blessed with two sons, making their home together for 43 years in Ventura, California.
After beginning his career as a computer programmer with Union Oil in 1967 and a stint with Northrop Aviation from 1969 to 1971, he began his 30+ year career as a civilian with the United States Navy, serving as a computer specialist at Port Hueneme FACSO (Facilities Systems Office) from 1971to 1986, and at Point Mugu Information Management Department from 1986 to 2003. After his promotion to supervisor in 1989, he completed his career as a contract manager in the Electronic Warfare Department (EWD) and retired on February 3, 2003 to begin many fun-filled adventures traveling with his wife and sons. From the Sea of Galilee, to the rivers of Europe, the shores of Mexico to cruises abundant with family and dear friends, Dan and Carole thoroughly enjoyed his retirement together.
Passionate about all things aviation, Dan, who was known to stop and stare at the sky at the sound of each passing airplane, enjoyed flying his Cessna 172 after earning his pilot's license in 1967 (which he maintained for 10 years). Selling the Cessna in order to buy their home in Ventura, Dan continued to
rent a variety of airplanes and enjoyed flying his young family all over California. Dan enjoyed many trips through the years to Civil War battle sites with his son, Tim, and couldn't get enough time playing golf with his son, Steve. Dan's family was able to vacation together with him in Alaska a few short months ago, building memories that will certainly last a lifetime.
Dan is survived by his wife, Carole; sons Tim (wife Susie) and Steve (wife Monica); and three grandchildren, Cuyler, Gavin and Tadyn. Dan's family would like to thank Livingston Caregivers, Nursing, and Hospice for the support and excellent care they provided in Dan's last few days. Family and friends are invited to the Ventura Missionary Church (VMC) for a celebration of Dan's life on Saturday, December 19th, at 1:00 p.m. with a reception following the memorial service.
