Dallas Tirrell Wilson, 37, passed unexpectedly at his family home the evening of September 22, 2015. Known affectionately by those closest to him as “Dal,” his sparkling, comedic, and caring spirit was evident to all who had the fortune of counting him as family and a friend.
Born to retired Ventura County fireman, Steve Wilson, and his wife Jan, at Port Hueneme’s Loma Linda Hospital on February 23, 1978, Dallas was a vivacious member of the Ojai community where he was raised and spent the majority of his life.
A proud graduate of Nordhoff High School (’96), he was known for his sharp intellect, exemplified through his quick wit and penchant for comedy, and greatly admired for his skill as a varsity athlete on both the Rangers’ baseball and football teams: a passion he continued to stoke throughout the years as a competitive athlete in an adult softball league. An avid Los Angeles Dodgers baseball fan, and Dallas Cowboys, Alabama Crimson Tide, and Florida State University Seminoles football fan, his passion for playing sports was rivaled only by his zeal and enthusiasm for watching and following them, an infatuation he had hoped to share with his newborn son, Hank Herschel Wilson.
Despite his ephemeral time with us, Dallas left a lasting legacy: to know him was to know love, an identity he derived from his love for and belief in Jesus Christ and His Saving Grace, a faith that endured and remained constant throughout his life. An altruist in every sense of the word, he loved deeply and unconditionally with an indiscriminating heart. To Dallas, nobody was a stranger. From boyhood through adulthood, he displayed unrivaled compassion to all he encountered. While trying to rehabilitate his own life, Dallas discovered a well of strength and happiness in serving others: enthusiastically rising at the crack of dawn to feed the homeless at Santa Barbara’s Rescue Mission. Dallas was a regular participant Celebrate and Recovery.
Yet, no love could compare to the adoration and devotion he had for his family, and above all, his son, Hank, whose birth breathed new life into him, and with it, a newfound optimism that accompanied his role as a father. His family finds solace and takes heart in the knowledge that Dallas is reunited with his Heavenly Father, and will guide his own son’s footsteps from above.
Dallas is survived by his fiancé, Ana Rothermel, son, Hank Herschel Wilson, grandmother, Lois Wilson, parents, Jan and Steve Wilson, brother, Steve Wilson Jr. (wife: Kammi Wilson), sister, Darla Harrold (husband: Benjamin Harrold), niece, Molly Harrold, nephews Benjamin Jr. Harrold, and Wyatt and Walker Wilson, and a litany of close friends.
Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. Hebrews 10:23
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways, acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths. Proverbs 3: 5-6
