Arthur Walter Wetterer, 97, of Ventura, died Friday, September 17, 2010. He was born August 9, 1913 in Chicago, Illinois to Arthur and Carrie Wetterer, and had been a Ventura County resident 35 years.
Arthur proudly served his country in the United States Navy as a Quartermaster during World War II.
After graduating Austin High School, he became an optician, and in 1937 he married Dorothy Smith. The two moved to Minneapolis in 1939, where he worked for the House of Vision, and their three sons, Keith, Richard and Brent, were born.
In 1953, the family moved to Great Falls, Mont. Two years later they relocated to Des Moines, Iowa, and in 1956 to Palo Alto, Calif.
After retiring, and a brief stint living in the Sierra Nevada community of Mi-Wuk, Calif., Arthur and Dorothy settled in Ventura. The two were avid golfers, and Arthur also enjoyed volunteering at Channel Islands National Park.
Arthur Wetterer is survived his wife, Dorothy; sons, Keith and Richard; and granddaughter, Sandra.
A memorial service will be held 2 p.m., Tuesday, September 28, 2010 at the Trinity Lutheran Church, 196 N. Ashwood Ave., Ventura, with Pastor David Hall officiating. Interment at Riverside National Cemetery will occur on a later date.
