Adele Flores Belarde, 89, of Ventura, passed away peacefully on August 13, 2013, with her family by her side. She was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico on April 26, 1924, to Ramon and Vicenta Flores. As a young child Adele moved to New York City, during the summer she would go to upstate New York as part of the ‘Fresh Air Kids Program’. Her first job, at the age of 15, was in the mail department at the original Macy’s in New York City.
In the early 1950’s Adele moved to Southern California where she met and later married Ray Belarde, together they had three children. Adele was a member and deaconess at Norwalk Presbyterian Church for several years. She retired as an accounting clerk from the city of La Mirada in 1997. After retirement Adele moved to Ventura so she could be closer to her family.
After moving to Ventura, Adele was able to spend time with her beloved grandchildren that she adored so much. Her hobbies included knitting, reading, camping and singing. Adele also attended Community Presbyterian Church in Ventura. She loved to tell a good joke and had an infectious smile. Adele was faithful to her lord, with a servant’s heart and a nurturing spirit. We are all rejoicing that Adele is at peace with her heavenly father.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her first born child; her brother, Gene Flores; and sisters, Margaret Clemmer and Mary Adair.
Adele is survived by her son, Paul Belarde of Republic of the Marshall Islands; daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Chris Selvey of Ventura; and grandchildren, Brandon, Ashley And Jenna Selvey all of Ventura.
A memorial service for Adele will be held at the Ted Mayr Funeral Home, 3150 Loma Vista Road in Ventura, on Monday, August 19, 2013, at 4:00 P.M. with Pastor Dave Teixeira and Sharon Parker officiating.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Ted Mayr Funeral Home. Condolences may be left at TedMayrFuneralHome.com.
