A natural born leader and athlete, Tom graduated from Carmel High School in the class of 1969 with numerous accolades. Among others, he served as President of Student Council, had the honor to represent Carmel High School at Boys State, and ran the second leg of the winning 4x100 meter relay in the State Track and Field Championships.
Tom attended Purdue University where he received his bachelor’s degree and Master’s of Science in Industrial Administration. He went on to have an illustrious career in computer science and information technology which culminated in his position as Chief Information Officer at Clarke American. During his tenure, the company won the U.S. Commerce Department’s Malcom Baldrige Award for manufacturing excellence in 2001 which remained one of his most proud accomplishments.
After 28 years in the corporate world, Tom embarked on a new entrepreneurial challenge that combined his business acumen with his love of animals.
Tom and Sue Ann purchased Paws In Heaven and lovingly grew the business to become the largest pet crematory and funeral home in South Central Texas, prior to retirement in 2017.
From a young age Tom was a sports aficionado. After competing as an athlete in baseball, basketball and track, he remained active by running, weightlifting and continued swimming throughout retirement. He shared his passion for athletics with his family as he coached and encouraged his children throughout their various disciplines.
Tom followed all sports but particularly enjoyed professional baseball, collegiate and professional basketball, and NASCAR racing.
Tom is remembered as a kind and compassionate provider for his family who inspired others through his wealth of knowledge and attitude for hard work. He was a fan of broad, slapstick comedy who loved a good “clown around.” His big heart and friendly nature made him a friend to many in the community. Our loss and grief are overwhelming.
A local memorial service will be held Friday, March 25, 2022, 3 p.m. – 4 p.m. in the Library Room of The Plantation Country Club.
