Ronald George Tucker, age 73, of Venice, Florida, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 24, 2024. He was the son of the late Ralph and Ethel Tucker of Londonderry, NH. Ron is survived by his wife Barbara Tucker of Venice, Florida, his daughter April Rae (Tucker) Flynn of North Attleboro, MA, his son, Shane Tucker, of North Attleboro, MA, and his bonus sons and wives, Sean and Lynn McGowan of Coventry, RI, and Thomas F McGowan Jr and Bridgette McGowan of Delmar, NY. Ron leaves behind his grandchildren and great grandchildren, Cheyenne Tucker and her partner Jorge Camara, Colton Flynn, Cassidy Flynn, Erin McGowan, Lauren McGowan, Adam McGowan, Reesa McGowan, Ezekiel Camara, Isabella Camara, and Isla Camara. Ron is the brother of Meredith (Tucker) Thompson and her husband, Gene Thompson of Cambridge, MA and Ralph E Tucker along with his wife Susan Tucker of Sanbornton, NH. He also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Ron was born in Cambridge, MA, raised in Somerville, MA, and graduated from Shaw Prepatory High School. Upon graduation, Ron attended Burdett College in Boston, MA. Ron enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1975, serving 2 years active duty before transitioning to USAF reserves until 1981. Upon returning from active duty with the Air Force, Ron moved to Plainville, MA and resumed his career with Bell Systems eventually retiring from Verizon as a lineman out of Allens Ave, Providence, RI in 2002 where he was known as both a dedicated employee but also a legendary prankster and was often found “working” on Friday evenings at the garage. Ron was actively involved as an on call fire fighter for the Plainville Fire Department and volunteered for the Plainville Jaycees for many years prior to relocating to Warwick, RI with his wife, Barbara.
During his retirement years, Ron and Barbara moved to Venice, FL, and enjoyed criss crossing the country in their RV, often residing in and volunteering with National Parks. He was an avid golfer and heavily involved with the Moose Club in Venice. He was always collecting new friends along the way with everything he did.
Anyone and everyone that met Ron knew there was truly no such thing as a stranger, only friends that he hadn’t met yet. It was ingrained in his nature to wander off, strike up conversations with strangers, and always leave with new friends.
Ron will be cremated in Venice, FL. Inurnment at Sarasota National Cemetery will be on August 30, 2024 at 12:30 pm with full Military Honors.
