March 8, 1935 – January 2, 2023
Mona Louise Gilbert, age 87, of Venice, Florida went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on the morning of January 2, 2023. She was born in North Troy, Vermont and exhibited throughout her lifetime a playful spunk, an earnest sense of responsibility and a strong love of family. In her 40’s she fulfilled a lifelong desire of earning her LPN degree and spent the next three decades providing loving care to many.
Mona is preceded in death by her husband, Bruce Gilbert of Derby, VT, her father and mother, John Westover and Bernadette Robitaille, both of North Troy, and four siblings: a brother, Paul (who died in early childhood), Robert Westover, Evelyn Hood, and Edwina Foulke. She is survived by two sisters, Shirley Berard (of Springfield, MA) and Vivian St. George (of Windsor, CA). She is also survived by two daughters: Marcia Ann Dolby (Pastor Dwight Dolby) of Englewood, FL and Bernadette Mary Smith (Dr. Mark A. Smith, III) of Pensacola, FL. In addition, Mona has among her descendants ten grandchildren and twelve great-children.
Mona was a member of Auburn Road Presbyterian Church in Venice and a memorial service will be held there (642 N. Auburn Road, Venice, FL 34292) on Saturday, January 21st at 3:00 PM with Rev. Samuel Dolby (Mona’s grandson of St. Louis, MO) presiding. The family wishes to express their thanks to A Little Help Nursing Registry in Venice, the Hospice Care Center at Village on the Isle, and the staff of Kays Ponger & Uselton Funeral Home in Venice. Mona’s body will be laid to rest at Gulf Pines Memorial Park in Englewood, FL in a private ceremony.
