Glenn E. Mullen, age 88 of Wausau, WI, and Venice, FL died November 13,2023 in Sarasota, Fl.He was born December 6, 1934, in the Town of Osborn. His parents were Verna E. (Luedtke) and Perry C. Mullen. Glenn grew up on a farm near Seymour, WI with three brothers and three sisters. After graduating from Seymour High School, he enlisted in the US Marine Corps. When his tour of duty was completed, he became a utility construction lineman and worked in most of the Midwest and East Coast areas. He worked on one of the first underground telephone projects in rural Missouri in 1958 and did many more after that. Glenn got in on the beginning of cable television construction in most of the states east of the Mississippi River. In 1963 he became vice-president of U.S. Cable, Inc. and one of the five charter stockholders. His company did the construction for many large cable television systems including those in St. Paul, Mn., Saginaw, Mi., Dayton, Ohio, Burlington, Vt., Newton, MA, and Fort Myers, FL. Glenn retired in 1990 as President of U.S. Cable, Inc. and he and his wife Marlene retired to Venice, Florida spending summers in Wisconsin for many years. He loved his wife fiercely and the two of them provided endless entertainment to all who knew them. He loved laughing, golfing, going to the beach, playing cribbage, spoiling his pets, and telling stories – many of which needed fact-checking. He never lost an argument and rarely lost a game of cribbage. Ever the proud Irishman, he had an ever present twinkle in his eye and the ability to charm just about anyone.He is survived by his wife Marlene; two daughters, Danae (Alan) Hischke, and Debra Mullen; Stepdaughter Stacy Owen; Grandsons Tyler (Meghan) Hischke and Alex Hischke; Step-Grandchildren Jason (Jolene) Brandt and Jayme (Ryan) Anklam; Great grandchildren Leland and Lochlan Brandt and Zoey and Emilia Hischke; sister, Eunice Wilson and brother, Richard Mullen, many nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters Audrey Rogers and Doris Mullen; brothers Eldred and Lavern Mullen; Stepdaughter Tracy Brandt; and grandson, Jordan Hischke.Special thank you to his Circlewood friends and neighbors for their kindness and care.
