Cathy (Kay) was born December 2, 1937 in Cleveland, OH to Clayton Ellsworth Horne, age 32, and Gretchen Regina Horne (née Margaret Wotsch), age 27. Clayton was an attorney and Gretchen a homemaker. She had an older sister Elsie and later a younger sister Sheryl.
Growing up in Lorain, she attended and was confirmed at St. John’s Evangelical Reformed Church. Cathy was active at Clearview High School, singing in chorus and serving as senior class secretary.
Cathy fondly remembered her time at Ohio University where she earned a Bachelors degree. Her first job was working for a Firestone Lab using her science knowledge. She married Jerry Jones in 1963 living near Ft. Eustis, VA. For the birth of their daughter, Pam, they relocated back to the Lorain area. She earned a teaching certificate at Baldwin Wallace College accepting her first position teaching home economics at Avon High School. She later taught and retired after 30 years from Northwest High School in Canal Fulton. She also earned her Master of Arts from Kent State University.
She married Richard Springer 7/5/75. Together they built two dream homes – in North Canton, OH and Fair Play, SC. They spent much time with family, made many friends, and traveled many places. Vacations included trips to HI, ME, FL, WV, NYC and Niagara Falls, Vegas, Puerto Rico, and their favorite a Mediterranean cruise. They enjoyed boating including an annual houseboat trip. After Richard passed away, Cathy began traveling again touring New England, FL, and her favorite-western National Parks.
Upon turning 80, Cathy relocated to Venice, FL near her daughter and enjoyed spending more time with her grandchildren.
Her hobbies included family, traveling, crafting, sewing, and cooking.
She is survived by her daughter, Pamela Syx (Roger), grandchildren, Veronica and Preston Yealy, step-daughter Suzanne Bozick (John), grandsons James and Nicholas Bradcovich, niece Kimberly McGarry, grandniece Brianna Evans, great-grands Mark and Gianna, and many longtime friends.
A simple gravesite remembrance for Cathy will be held Saturday, June 18th, 2022 at Ridge Hill Memorial Park in Lorain, near her father, mother, younger sister, and paternal grandparents, Ulysses Horne and Hattie Sensabaugh. Following, there will be a Celebration of Life for Cathy at Erie Steak and Seafood in Lorain.
