Sigrid was born Nov.8, 1924 , the youngest of 7 children born to John and Magna Melby, Norwegian immigrants. She grew up on their farm in Greenbush, Minn. She moved to Portland, Oregon, where she worked in the shipyards during world War II, and attended school, graduating from Emanuel School of Nursing. She then became an airline stewardess for Western Airlines and enjoyed traveling where she met many celebrities. She subsequently returned to working as a surgical nurse in Portland for many years.
She married John Ralph Wittrich and they had 3 children, Ranae (Roy), Jon (Dodie) and Becky (Gary). She is survived by her children, 4 grandchildren: Tammy, Kelsey, Kristy and Katey and six great grandchildren: Troy, Micah, Faith, Nevaeh, Granite, and Ona all living in Oregon. She was also blessed with many wonderful nieces and nephews.
Her family loved her dearly. She was known for her witty humor, her love for dancing, her accordion playing and her ability to fluently write, speak and sing in Norwegian, which she never lost the ability to do. She was also remembered by many for her wonderful and tasty pastries and the canning from her large garden was incredible.
Even though she traveled all over the world, she most enjoyed going to Norway where she loved to stay at the original family farm where her father grew up, and many generations later relatives still live to this day.
In her later life she married Bruce Baker and lived in California until his death and then moved back to Portland to be with her family. She found true comfort in knowing that we would all see each other again in Heaven!
