She was born 90 years ago in North Carolina. She always loved music and met her husband, Clifford R. Nations, while performing at the county fair. They married in 1944 and moved to the Pacific Northwest after WWII, and were together until he died in 1987. She spent her early adult years as a homemaker and mother. When her children were raised, she became a houseparent at the Washington State School for the Blind, retiring in 1988.
Her Christian faith was very important to her and she was an active member of Trinity Baptist Church for over 60 years.
Ruth was a devoted mother and grandmother. She is survived by her three children, Sharon Nations, Ron Nations, and Marilyn Gray(Enrique), two grandchildren, Rachel Chen (Kristine Foley), and David Chen (Katrina Utterback), two great grandchildren, Elliot Chen and Wilder Chen, and two step-great grandchildren, Rory and Georgia Foley.
Private burial is at Willamette National Cemetery, Portland, OR, with her husband.
A Memorial Service for her will be held Saturday, February 4, 2017, 2 p.m., at Trinity Baptist Church, 6700 Macarthur Blvd, Vancouver, WA. All are welcome.
