Janet Jones Melton

Janet J. Melton passed away August 24, 2019. She was born in Portland, OR on December 13, 1932 to Ben and Dora (Cole) Jones. Janet lived on the coast during her grade school years. Throughout her life, she loved going to the coast. After high school, she started working at Newberry’s department store in Portland. She met her husband Robert Taylor Melton in San Francisco. Robert enlistment in the Navy eventually relocated them to Hawaii. She loved Hawaii so much that she looked forward to visiting there again. A loving Janet enjoyed spending time with her family. One of her favorite memories involved Sundays. On Sunday, the family would attend church and conclude with sitting down to dinner together. Janet also enjoyed going to Tennessee, playing Solitaire, crocheting, walking, and shopping.

Her parents, Ben and Dora, step father Wes Johnson; brother Bob Jones; and husband, Robert Taylor Melton precede Janet in death. Four children survive her: Robert Taylor Melton, Jr., Kathleen Ann Cole, William Alan Melton and Brian Lee Melton; her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held on September 12th, 2019 at 11:30 am at Willamette National Cemetery, Portland, Oregon.
