Janet Irene Hongel, born September 2, 1954, in Oakland, CA, passed from this earth August 17, 2010. Janet was the daughter of Calvin Hongel, who preceded her in death in 1998. She was survived by her mother Dixie Hongel, son Daniel Hongel (wife Stephanie); Brothers: Dwayne Hongel, Gary Hongel (wife Pam), Brian Hongel (wife Heidi.) Janet was also survived by many nieces and nephews, and her dear friend Shirley Grayson.
In Janet’s long bout with physical challenges, her unwavering faith in God gave her the strength of will and spirit that inspired many. Janet went to school to study art, and her love for art was expressed in many forms, including music, pencil drawings, painting, arts and crafts, building doll houses, and making memory boxes for her nieces and nephews. Janet found peace being outdoors, going to the river and the beach.
Janet had a heart for children, and spent a lot of time with her nieces and nephews, having them over to her home, playing many different games, as well as taking them on special outings.
In thoughts of her passing from this world, Janet always talked about how beautiful heaven was, and she expressed a hope that she would have a large fish tank full of seahorses when she got there.
