Eunice passed away in her Vancouver home February 28, 2018, just short of her 97th birthday. Born near Renner, South Dakota, north of Sioux Falls, to Bennie and Emma Moe, she enjoyed growing up on a farm as the middle child of nine. She loved telling stories in Norwegian and English about her large family. In cooking, baking, and other ways, she carried on Norwegian traditions.
Her favorite story was of meeting Howard at a dance in Sioux Falls, where he was stationed with the Army Air Corps. They married in Wichita Falls, TX, on July 31, 1945. When Howard returned from Manila, they moved to Vanport, OR, which was destroyed by a 1948 flood. They moved in 1949 from Portland, OR, to the Heights in Vancouver, lived 1951–1956 in Minnehaha, then settled on Wahclellah Avenue. Howard passed away in 2016.
Eunice enjoyed her life as homemaker, wife, mother to Mike and David of Vancouver, and grandmother to Karen (husband Scott) Thompson of Vancouver. She is also survived by her sister, Doris Ernst; her sister-in-law, Lois Moe; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was active in Trinity Lutheran Church and Sons of Norway here. Eunice is remembered for her thoughtfulness; she knew birthdates of hundreds of relatives and friends, sending countless cards and letters.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, March 17 at 2:00 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran. Committal services will be at Willamette National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church.
