With the heaviest of hearts, we announce the passing of our father and grandfather, William (Bill) John Porter, born on April 5th, 1932, in Vancouver, BC, and passed away on September 30th, 2024 at Peace Arch Memorial Hospital.
He was predeceased by his wife, Enid in 2016 and leaves behind their three children, eight grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren to carry on their legacy - Linda Hull (Kevin), Jeff (Denise, Hudson & Reid), David, Taylor (Natalia); David Porter (Marjorie), Melissa (Noah, Luther & Maeve), Aaron (Chanelle, Elliot & Samuel), Chris (Caitlin); Rob Porter (Susan), Kyle (Kelsey), and Scott (Katherine). Bill's extended family, Ellen (Hank) Giesbrecht, Ronald Porter, Daphne Freund, nieces, nephews, and friends share our heavy hearts.
Bill spent his career as an aviation mechanic with Pacific Western Airlines and retired in 1986 running the 737 engine shop at YVR. However, his early days were spent working on the iconic Beaver & Goose seaplanes in Prince Rupert. If asked about those early days, he could tell a good story or two. His retirement years with Enid were filled with snowbird travelling, square dancing, golf, family dinners, spending time with their grandchildren, and developing quite the green thumb for his tomato plants.
"Shake the hand that shook the world" or "Take your time quickly" were Bill's favourite sayings with the grandchildren and will live on in infamy - Papa, you will be truly missed.
There will be no service at the family's request.
