We are sad to share the passing of our father Way Chow Leung on August 15, 2022 after fighting with pneumonia. He lived to a grand age of 90. Born in Chongsan, China as the eldest of 5 children to father Jim Hong Leung and mother Yuk Fong Chow. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Betty Sok Iu Leung, 2 sons John (father-in-law to Nancy, grandfather to Emily and Ryan) and Dave (grandfather to Reese and Jett), sister Xingqun Liang (uncle to Jingsong Ou, children Camilla and Jesse) and sister Piu Yee Ko (uncle to Raymong). He was predeceased by his younger brothers Way Woon and Way Noon.
Way Chow left Hong Kong at the age of 25 and arrived alone to Canada in January of 1956. Landing in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan he owned and operated a large grocery store, BC Fruit, eventually leaving and moving his young family out to Vancouver, BC. He started working in Chinatown at what would be the prelude to Kent's Kitchen chain then for Olympic Meats and retiring after 20 years to travel with his wife. His passion would be spending a day fishing or watching the waves pass by as he reeled in crab traps looking for the big ones. Being small in stature, he was known to have a hearty appetite but he will be better remembered for his friendly nature to everyone he came across. He was always more concerned for everyone around him more than himself. He never had a bad thing to say about anyone.
He especially enjoyed keeping busy taking care of his grandchildren, shuttling them to school, going for walks and buying them food at the neighbourhood markets and shops together.
Thank you to the staff at Mount Saint Joseph Hospital for their tiredless efforts and care.
Rest in peace with our Lord.
Love your family.
