Tony was born on November 24, 1933, in Chaozhou, China. After earning his degree in mathematics from the Chinese University, he spent 17 years teaching high school math in Hong Kong eventually becoming the principal where he oversaw the operations of the school. He had a passion for teaching and was well respected by students and colleagues.
In 1974, Tony made the courageous decision to immigrate with his family to Vancouver to provide new opportunities for his family. He re-united with a prior colleague to start a driving school, returning to his teaching roots. Subsequently, he managed the cafeteria at the Canadian Cancer Society – Vancouver Lodge and served as the Secretary Treasurer for the Hospital Employees’ Union, where his dedication to service touched the lives of many.
Tony was always willing to help others and admired for his integrity, kindness, and humour. He enjoyed social gatherings and was always the life of the party (and the loudest during karaoke). He had a love for the outdoors and enjoyed long hikes and water activities. He enjoyed watching basketball, boxing, and UFC (though, ironically, he found hockey too violent).
Tony was a devoted husband to Bassey, his beloved wife of 56 years, and a proud father to Winnie, Vincent, and Hubert. He was also a doting grandfather to his three grandchildren, Aaron, Mitchell, and Brayden. His legacy of resilience, love, and warmth will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on April 19, 2025, at Hamilton Harron Funeral Home, where we welcome those attending to share a memory or story about Tony, followed by a lunch at Koon Bo Restaurant.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of B.C. or Mount Saint Joseph Hospital in Tony’s memory.
