It is with deep sadness that our family announces the sudden passing of Steve.
Steve, the youngest of six children, had a special talent and a driving passion for golf, a fact which continued his entire life. Steve joined the Marine Drive Golf Club as a Junior the day he turned 12, at the teaching & encouragement of his father, Harold Berry, a long-time member at Marine Drive. Steve represented Magee High School on the Golf Team & distinguished himself as a Junior, being awarded the title of “All American” at a Junior US Tournament. Steve was given a 4-year Golf Scholarship to Simon Fraser University, a 1st for the University.
Steve played on 24 Provincial & National teams over 4 decades, including representing BC on 11 different Willingdon Cup Teams. Steve captured the BC Junior, BC Amateur, & 2 BC Mid-Amateur titles, and was inducted twice into the BC Golf Hall of Fame.
Steve worked for the Workers Compensation Board in Richmond before moving to Victoria in 1993. After retiring from WCB, Steve moved back to Vancouver in 2010. Recently, Steve enjoyed many winter golf trips to New Zealand, Australia & Tasmania. He said “Down Under” felt like a “Second Home” to him. Steve was noted for his awesome sense of humour, his closeness to family, being soft spoken, his generosity of spirit, and his sense of fair play.
Steve is survived by his sister, Elayna & her husband Scotty, sister-in-law Arlene, nephews Len, David, Ken, Mark & Paul, nieces Robyn, Denise, Nadara, Anita & Sonia.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday July 28th from 2 - 4 pm at Marine Drive Golf Club, 7425 Yew St, Vancouver, BC.
