It is with great sadness that the Mah family announces the passing of their loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Sophia Mee Ling Mah, age 88. She passed peacefully on Monday, October 3rd 2022, in Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada.
Sophia was born in Taishan, Guangdong, China on January 20, 1934 and was the oldest of two children. Sophia married her husband, Stanley Lin Kui Mah on July 15, 1953 in Hong Kong, China and immigrated to Vancouver, Canada shortly thereafter. She is survived by her husband Stanley, her brother Jennings, her 4 children, Ed (Josie), Ray (Nathalie), Evelyn (Will) and Heather (Ugo), along with her 7 grand children, Ryan (Fiona), Corey, JJ, Meghan, Katie, Brandon, Aaron and great grandson, Elliot, who all adored her.
Together Sophia, with her husband, Stanley, successfully invested in real estate. Her strong work ethics lead her to work in the production line of a seafood company, as a seamstress at Aero Garment and as a packer at Krispee’s Potato Chip. Sophia retired at an early age of 42 but continued to assist her husband with their real estate properties well into her 80’s.
Sophia made friends easily and has many friends throughout the community. She enjoyed organizing fundraisers for the Confederation Seniors Centre in Burnaby. She loved playing Mah Jong, ballroom dancing, karaoke, travelling and growing vegetables in her garden. Sophia shared her vegetables with her family, friends and neighbours. She and Stanley enjoyed swimming daily at Eileen Daily Pool and walks around the Confederation Park track.
Sophia will always be remembered as a devoted, caring, generous, thoughtful, strong and feisty woman. She always put everyone’s needs before her own, making sure her family and friends were all well taken care of. All her conversations would end with her wishing you “Good Luck!”
