With sadness, we announce the passing of Soh Ngoh Thiam on the morning of November 23, 2022 in New Westminster at the age of 91. Soh Ngoh was predeceased by her husband and leaves behind eight children Margie, Beng (Mei), Patricia (Francis), Lola, Lily, Mary (Sylvester), Harry (Echo), Francis; thirteen grandchildren Rowena, Garret, Gabriel (Lisa), Grace (Jesse), Travis (Ellika), Brandon, Dannel (Judy), Brittney, Taylor, Breanne, Riley, Regan, Reese; three great-grandchildren Evelyn, Jayden, Eliza; and countless extended family members and friends in Canada and Southeast Asia.
Soh Ngoh was born on July 23, 1931 in Singapore. She married Timmy Chan Tay Thiam on her birthday in 1951 and raised their children in Singapore and Malaysia, where they lived from 1960 to 1968. The family moved back to Singapore in 1968 before moving to Vancouver in 1979. Here, she set up a home where her grandchildren would spend much of their childhoods. As the family’s central gathering place for both holiday celebrations and homemade Singaporean meals, her lively home will be remembered as the setting to some of our most memorable life moments. Her generous spirit made sure that we were always well fed and relatives and guests alike were welcomed like family.
While we mourn, we are also grateful for Soh Ngoh’s long life. To honour her memory and celebrate her legacy, we will host a Visitation on Tuesday, December 6th from 7:30 to 9:00pm at Glenhaven Memorial Chapel (1835 East Hasting St., Vancouver), where a Funeral Service will also be held on Wednesday, December 7th at 9:00am. The Burial will follow at Ocean View Burial Park (4000 Imperial St, Burnaby).
Please join the family and friends for a reception after the Burial at 1:30pm, location to be announced at the Funeral Service.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Soh Ngoh's name to the BC Cancer Foundation, or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.
