Ruth was predeceased by two days by her husband Ronald, who died on May 3 at the age of 94.
She leaves her daughters Laura (Stuart Aird); Maureen (Angus McIlraith) and Joan; grandchildren Samuel Aird, Neil Aird, Jack McIlraith, Morgan McIlraith, Alex Murie and Stacey Murie,; brother Jim Beaton (Doris) and sister Lenore Thomas (David). She was predeceased by son-in-law Andy Murie and granddaughter Emily Aird.
Ruth was born in Vancouver; graduated from Magee Secondary School in 1950 and attended the University of Toronto to become a physiotherapist, graduating in 1954. She took a job as a physio in Edmonton, where she met Ron. They married on June 2, 1956.
Ron’s career led to moves around Alberta and to Ontario before the couple returned permanently to Vancouver in 1984.
Ruth went back to work as a physio when her children were school-aged. She played tennis regularly in Mississauga and Vancouver, where she enjoyed the competition and friendship of the Dunbar Ramblers group. She also played bridge regularly and was a member of the altar guild at St. Philip’s Anglican Church in Dunbar for 30 years.
A memorial service for Ron and Ruth will be held on Tuesday, May 30, at 11 a.m., at St. Philip’s Anglican Church, 3737 W 27th Ave W, Vancouver.
