Roy C. Arcilla (1950-2016) It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Roy Cuizon Arcilla. He is survived by his loving wife and best friend, Perry, and their three children James, Lucille, and Harold.
He will be profoundly missed by his sisters Eden Villamor, Marian Arcilla, Laura Nielsen, Mae Brown and brother, Dante Arcilla, along with a very large family of in-laws, extended family and invaluable friends.
His father Saturnino Arcilla and mother Josefa Cuizon Arcilla, father-in-law Salvador Sanchez Mangubat and mother-in-law Leoncia Quimque Mangubat predecease him.
Roy moved his then very young family, Perry, James (4 yrs old), and Lucille (2 yrs old) from Cebu, Philippines to Vancouver, British Columbia in 1978. His determination and complete dedication to his family built for them a beautiful life sending each child, James, Lucille and Harold, born in Vancouver in 1983, to private Catholic schools in the Lower Mainland and to university. He gave many years of outstanding service to the Vancouver School Board, working as a building engineer and retiring six years ago at the age of 60. He spent those retirement years with the love of his life, Perry Arcilla, traveling to visit their children and, of course, playing golf with his loyal friends. A man of numerous hobbies and pastimes, Roy loved cars, motorcycles, and all forms of engineering, he loved the sport of golf, and, though he was rarely vocal about it, he was a member of Doce Pares, a prestigious martial arts institution founded in Cebu, and a high-level black belt in Eskrima-Kali-Arnis.
Roy was an outstanding father and husband. His family was the centre of all his plans. His disarming intelligence and bravery through adversity were tempered by his generosity, good nature, and infectious sense of humour. Roy was a kind man whose presence at any gathering was felt and remembered.
The family will receive friends at St. Andrews's Parish, 480 East 47th Ave., Vancouver, BC on Sunday July 10th, 6 pm, for a prayer vigil and viewing. Refreshments to follow. The funeral mass will be held in the same church on Monday, July 11th, 8:30 am to 9:30 am. Burial at Ocean View Funeral Home, 4000 Imperial Ave., Burnaby, BC at 10 am. Refreshments to follow at St. Andrew's. Flowers may be sent to 481 East 45th Ave., Vancouver, BC.
