Bob grew up on a small Kootenay farm which led him to a lifelong attachment to the out-of-doors and a wish to become a forester. Upon graduating from UBC he joined the BC Provincial Public Service and served in the Forest Service, Parks Branch, Ministry of Recreation and Conservation, and the Lands Service. He felt particularly privileged to be present when the Provincial Parks system was being designed and its policies formulated. He loved BC, his native Province, and became very familiar with a good part of it while actively involved in scouting areas that could become BC Provincial Parks and Campsites.
While Bob was dedicated to his career, he was also a family man and friend and mentor to many. He loved gardening, sailing the BC coastline, and thoughtful conversations on a multitude of different topics. He was quick witted and loved learning new things. Bob could fix anything and loved a good joke.
Bob was predeceased by his beloved wife Marie José. They were married for 59 years. He is lovingly remembered by his daughters Marie Louise Stewart (Roy), and Yvonne Andrea Dales (Ross), his grandson Connor (Tai) and granddaughter Jenna, his nephew Bill (Cheryl) and niece Arlene.
Bob expressed gratitude for all the people who helped him along his life’s path. He dreamed of a world without war, poverty, or damage to the environment.
Bob passed away peacefully in Vancouver with his family by his side.
