Philip was the third youngest child of George Tomlinson and Jessie Durrant. He was twin to Jessie (Tote), brother to George, Marion (Mally), Marjory, Duncan, Albert, Joan, Ruth, David and Allen; father to Daniel, Diane and Jaime; grandfather to Erynn, Renee, Adom, Jason, Sharon, Scot, Jade, and Max; and, great grandfather to Dominic and Avery-Rose.
Born and raised in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, Philip moved to Vancouver and joined the Armed Forces at 16 years of age. After the war ended, he pursued his life long passion of electronics and became a traveling salesman, before opening Main Electronics in 1971 with his “lovely bride”, Beverlie. He was soon joined in business by his son Daniel and later in life by his caring daughter in law, Denise. He thoroughly enjoyed his work at the shop, referring to it as “his labour of love“ and continued working there until his passing.
He will be forever remembered by his friends and long time customers as a “Jack-of-all-trades;” by all the neighborhood kids as the local lifeguard, swimming instructor and amazing magician and by his children as the best dad in the world.
We will forever cherish the many family memories of singing road trips, card games, BBQ’s, house parties, bingo nights … and everyone knew about the Beatrice Street house and its open door policy: Philip welcomed, without question, everyone and anyone who walked through the front door.
Special thanks to his grandson Max, who was his live-in companion during his last weeks.
A shared service to celebrate the lives of both Philip Tomlinson and Daniel Tomlinson will be held at Broadway Church on Saturday, February 25th.
