Peter will be forever remembered with love, respect and will be deeply missed by his wife, Mary; his mother, Mei Yung; his siblings Norman (Susan), Andrew (Florina), Harvey, Kelvin (Denise), Gary (Rita), Steven (Susanna) and Susan (Jonathan); his nieces and nephews (Tia, Catherine, Terra, Owen, Lauryn, Sophie, Alex and Ricky) and his many extended family members. Peter was predeceased by his father King Yin Chiu.
Peter loved his family fiercely and fought with an unbridled spirit against a challenging and difficult battle against cancer with exceptional strength, resilience, courage and willpower.
No matter how much pain he experienced, Peter always made time to be there for others when they needed him. No questions asked. Peter always put other people’s needs before his own. He was a loyal and patient friend with a sensitive soul.
With his kind, calming and selfless disposition, Peter touched many in a positive, loving and nurturing way. Always the voice of reason, he was a confidante to many. He was a practical joker with a great sense of humour. Peter valued and recognized loyalty, honesty, and authenticity. With his boyish charms, incredible smile, and hearty laugh, it was easy to be enthralled by him.
Born on September 4, 1972, Peter lived most of his life in Vancouver. He was part of an eight-children family consisting of seven boys and one girl. He was the youngest of the seven boys. After graduating from Templeton Secondary School, Peter pursued Information Technology studies at BCIT before working in the private and public sectors. Peter accomplished much in his short time with us, and cherished the relationships he built with his neighbours, coworkers, and life-long and family friends.
Peter had many interests – he had a soft spot for animals, enjoyed listening to different music genres. He took great joy in learning to play the cello and famously taking on the ukulele, quickly and easily.
He had an amazing ear of music, a sharp eye for photography, and the patience and dexterity for complex origami. He obtained a motorcycle license riding the crazy lower mainland streets, enjoyed a good game of mahjong, used his grace and quickstep for ballroom dancing, possessed a palate for great foods and restaurants, and he treasured with all his heart, long, adventurous walks with the love of his life, his wife, Mary.
We will always hold his presence, cherish his spirit and love for life in our hearts forever. All our lives were enriched because of Peter. His death has left a profound void in the hearts of those who knew him.
To be loved by him was to be truly blessed.
He will be sorely missed.
A celebration of Peter’s life is being planned for friends and family. A private urn committal service will be arranged at a later date at Forest Lawn Memorial Park for immediate family.
