Myria Brenda Wilson was born July 5 1964 in Prince Rupert to Amy and Sam Wilson. In Terrace she met the love of her life Orrin Fraser Smith and they had four beautiful children, Neil, Jarvis, Angel and Crystal. In 1990 Myria suffered the unimaginable loss of her husband in a car accident. She later left back to Prince Rupert to be with Peter. Her and Peter had their only child, Bear, in 1994 and soon after moved to the lower mainland where they eventually split up in 1998.
Myria finally was able to settle years later in East Vancouver, which was to become her home and her friends quickly became her chosen family. Myria also welcomed her first grandchild in Vancouver in 2009, Janine R. A. Smith from her youngest daughter Crystal. Soon after she welcomed a flood of grandchildren; Sereene (Neil), Ana (Angel), Raven (Crystal), Kiera (Neil), Jade (Angel), Jean and Joe jr (Angel), Tami (Angel), λugʷaləs (Crystal). Myria loved her grandchildren with all her heart.
In 2021 Myria was diagnosed with lung cancer and had to have surgery. We hoped this would be the end of her cancer battle, but sadly we learned in August 2023 that her cancer had spread. In her final days we brought in as much culture as we could. In fact, we were the first family to ever smudge in the Burnaby Palliative unit. Myria fought incredibly hard against the cancer but succumbed to the disease on May 25th 2024, surrounded by those who loved her.
