May 2, 1931 – August 3, 2011
On August 3, 2011, we lost our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, Man Joon (Harry) Cheng of Vancouver. Man Joon was born on May 2 1931 in Guandong Yinping China and immigrated to Canada in 1950 settling in the Vancouver area. He started a career as a cook in several areas throughout the province of BC including a stint on the BC ferries. Eventually, he worked at Trader Vics, where he became one of the senior chefs. He then opened his own restaurant, the Ridge Garden Restaurant which the Vancouver Sun declared had the best fish and chips in town.
In recents years he discovered Jesus and brought him into his heart and was baptized in 2009.
He will be missed by his loving wife Bo Har Cheng, brothers Man Guey Cheng, Man Jong Cheng, Man Jick Cheng and sister Ji Yen Lam; daughters Eileen (Bill Louie) & Doreen Sandberg ; sons Anthony (Narin) & David; and grandchildren Amanda, Marc, Nathanael. He is predeceased by his son-in-law Brian Sandberg and his beloved grandson Andrew. He also leaves behind many extended family members and friends.
A celebration of his life will be held on Wednesday August 10 at Fraserland Alliance Church (3330 S.E. Marine Drive) at 1:00 PM. There will be a viewing on Tuesday August 9 at Glenhaven Memorial Chapel (1835 E. Hastings St) between 6 and 8 PM.
In lieu of flowers, a donations to either to the following charities would be appreciated;
The Heart & Stroke Foundation, Vancouver Chinese Alliance Church or South Vancouver Community Church.
