Minoru (Bob) Tanaka, May 5, 1925 – March 4, 2021. A dear brother, friendly uncle and trusted friend passed away on March 4, 2021. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 58 years, Miyoshi (nee Nakashima), siblings Saiyo Hattori, Masako (Linda) Yada, Kazuo (Bud), Akira (Mike) and Mitsuru (Miki). He is survived by his siblings Shigeru (Bill), Osamu (Sam) and Virginia, and sisters-in-law Mary and Yukiko and many loving cousins, nephews and nieces.
Minoru was born to Ichijiro and Miki (nee Tsuji) Tanaka in Vancouver, BC. He lived in Lillooet, BC during World War II and moved back to Vancouver after the war. He worked for over 30 years in the automotive repair industry. Minoru used his fine body shop skills to make various woodworking gifts and other useful pieces. He enjoyed many global trips and was also an avid gardener who was passionate about his chrysanthemums and bonsai trees. Minoru also enjoyed his bridge club, golfing with the seniors and loved reading his action thriller novels.
He will be remembered for his friendly personality, great smile and engaging conversation. He loved interacting with the younger grand-nieces and nephews. He had a love of life and learning. We will all greatly miss him.
A heartfelt thank you for the compassionate care provided by Robert Nimi Nikkei Home and the medical teams at Vancouver General Hospital and the Royal Columbian Hospital. Also, a special thank you to his general practitioner and cardiologist who were all extremely supportive in the challenging past few months.
A memorial service for Uncle Minoru will be held once social gatherings are allowed. In lieu of flowers or koden, a donation in memory of Minoru may be made to the Vancouver Buddhist Temple or the Nikkei Seniors Health Care and Housing Society.
