Lori Elizabeth Davidson passed away on Monday, April 10, 2023, surrounded by her loving family. She fought bravely for over a year, but finally succumbed to her cancer. She is survived by her husband Ian, father Gary, brother Ron and sister Susan.
Lori was born in Nanaimo, British Columbia, and lived there for nearly 40 years before moving to Burnaby with Ian who was starting a new career. She spent most of her working life – 33 years – as an Equipment Operator at BC Ferries; first at Departure Bay in Nanaimo, then for the remainder of her time at Horseshoe Bay.
She was a loving, faithful partner to Ian for over 30 years. While they had their ups and downs like everyone else, their relationship only grew stronger as the years passed. Ian has often been heard to say that he never needed Lori to tell him she loved him, she proved it with her actions every day of their lives.
Lori was devoted to her family, and would make any sacrifice to help when needed. The usual sibling rivalry was evident with her brother and sister, but it was all good-natured and good fun. Lori especially loved all her nieces and nephews. She was generous with her time and would do anything for them.
A loyal and faithful friend, while Lori maintained a very small social circle, those few who were close to her know that her friendship was unconditional and unshakable. She loves you all.
Lori loved the outdoors; since she couldn't maintain a garden in the Burnaby apartment, she often went for walks in the neighbourhood, admiring the gardens in the yards of those who could. Years ago she transformed her own yard in Nanaimo from a humble, somewhat moss-ridden patch of grass into an oasis of beautiful plant life. She was complimented often by passing neighbours.
She loved animals, and any dog or cat that crossed her path was immediately cherished. Lori had some kind of affinity for them, and even the shyest puppy or the most ornery cat would immediately go to her. There are family pets that bit everybody except her.
Lori loved to travel; she flew to England in her early teens, unaccompanied, and by all accounts had a lively and enthusiastic visit with a new lifelong friend. She and Ian visited Spain 3 times, and continued to enjoy and learn new things about the country on every visit. Most memorable are the visits to Camp Nou to attend matches played by her beloved team, FC Barcelona. She was teaching herself Spanish and Catalan, and had dictionaries in half a dozen drawers around the apartment.
Lori was hard-working, honest, and was highly respected for her integrity. She would not violate her principles for anyone or anything. If her name appeared on a report, her version of the story was accepted as Gospel. She trained many without being a trainer, and managed much without being a manager. She took credit for none of it.
We're especially thankful to The BC Cancer Agency, Mount Saint Joseph Hospital, and Saint Paul's Hospital and the entire staff of those institutions. You're all angels of mercy and Lori loved each and every one of you.
Te amo, mi Luchita. Hasta luego.
