21 March 1927 – 19 August 2015
It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Kenneth Yok Keung Lam on 19 August 2015 at the age of 88. He will be lovingly missed by his wife Shum Chee; children Stanley (Leanne), Barry (Lucy), Mayda (Ken), Maisie, Benny, and Mimi (Tony); grandchildren Natalie (Kurt), Lori (Shane), Adria (Mike), Bianca, Gilbert, Lauren, Kelsey, Bryan, and Janine; and great-grandchildren Aidan, Zachary, Carina, Justin, and Vanessa.
Ken was born in Nam Moon Lei, Xinhui, China and moved to Flin Flon, Manitoba, Canada at the age of 25. An industrious, courageous and amicable man, he believed passionately in family values and worked tirelessly in the restaurant business to support his own growing family, which he moved to Vancouver, BC in 1972. An avid learner, he instilled in his family the value of education; some of his proudest moments were celebrating the many academic achievements of his children and grandchildren. To honour his legacy, his family has established the Kenneth Yok Keung Lam Fund at the University of British Columbia. Memorial donations can be made at www.memorial.supporting.ubc.ca/kenneth-lam/ or 604-827-4111.
In his final years, Ken faced a lot of adversity with his failing health, but he met them with strength, gentleness and smiles. We are grateful to Dr. Thomas Ho, Dr. Janice Wong and the dedicated staff at the VGH ER and Medical Daycare and Brock Fahrni for their compassionate care. We would also like to express our heart-felt appreciation to all his relatives and friends for their love and support over the years.
A memorial service will be held at Glenhaven Memorial Chapel, 1835 East Hastings Street, Vancouver, BC on Friday, 28 August 2015, at 12 PM, to be followed by an interment ceremony at 2:30 PM at Ocean View Burial Park, 4000 Imperial Street, Burnaby, BC.
