Judy Darnel

With family by her side it is with great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of our mom, Judy in the early morning of May 26th. Born in Germany in 1930, Ingrid worked her way over to Canada in October 1952 where she eventually settled in Vancouver. Through personal struggles and with the help of the Kabalarian Philosophy she changed her name to Judy to truly begin a new life. Judy worked hard most her life where she at times took on three jobs to just keep the family going. Judy found her escape on the stage as a dancer, most notably as a Spanish Flamenco dancer. She lived her dream of successfully operating her “Happy Hour Dance Studio” where she loved sharing the art of dance with her students. For many years Judy loved the annual family vacation in Osoyoos, she loved her Bingo and for over 50 years she was an avid bowler until the closing of the Varsity Ridge Bowling Centre in 2013. Judy also loved watching the horses run at Hastings Park Race Track. But above all she loved her family.

Sadly, Judy was predeceased by two sons, Bernard (in 2013) and Sigurdt (in 1991). She will be missed deeply by her constant companion of 20 years, her love, her Otto, son, Gerard, daughter in law, Jan (grandson, Dustin), daughter in law, Susanna (granddaughter, Alannah and grandson, Michael), daughter Hailey (Wes), brother, Kevan, nieces Karen and Julie Ann, along with numerous extended family and friends.

Judy was an unselfish, kind and giving person who loved people and always had a song in her heart and a dance in her step. A hard but good life, may she rest in peace. Special thanks to the Staff at Haro Park, that took such good care of Judy during her stay there and to the Doctors and Nurses at St. Paul’s Hospital who helped so compassionately during this most difficult time. Cremation has taken place with the interment to be held at 3:00 pm at Mountain View Cemetery at 5455 Fraser St. Vancouver, BC on Thursday, June 23rd. Celebration of Life to follow at our residence, please RSVP your attendance by June 18th to [email protected]. Details will be provided at that time.
