'Big Judy' - 'Anne'
Sunrise: March 19, 1943 - Sunset: August 27, 2024
With great sadness, we announce the passing of Judith ‘Judy’ Anne Baker (nee Selby) at Lions Gate Hospital in North Vancouver, BC on August 27, 2024. Judy was born to her parents Arthur and Barbara (nee Whyte) Selby. She grew up on the North Shore and attended Ridgeway Elementary School, North Van High and learned her bookkeeping skills through various night school classes, programs and training seminars. Judy’s strong work ethic began with her first job as a teller at BMO. In 1972 she came to Squamish Indian Band (Squamish Nation) and worked for Economic Development, Finance, Housing and Property Tax Departments. Judy was a strong steward who advocated for staff benefits, salary increase and believed in working for the people and was not afraid to speak the truth in any situation. In 1981 Band Elections started with her, and a small crew of ladies, and just as she was with the balancing the books, budgets, every ballot had to be accounted for. Judy never called in sick and always got the job done. She retired in 2014 after 43 years of service to Squamish Nation and Families.
Judy married Harry, the love of her life in November 1970. They raised their family on Eslha7an (Mission IR# 1) and attended every game, sport and event in the community of Squamish Nation and the North Shore. She was well known for her enthusiastic cheering at all lacrosse games and her radiant personality that brought joy to so many. She had a way of making everyone feel good and was loved by so many. Judy always celebrated her children, grandchildren’s athletic accomplishments and academic achievements and was so very proud of every one of them.
She will be dearly missed by her loving husband Harry Earl Baker; children Kathy Mansouri (Sami), Brian Thomas Baker (Lisa), Darren Earl Baker (Rhonda), Bradley Raymond Baker (Gail), Cherie Kathryn Baker (Peter); grandchildren Jesse James El Mansouri (Michelle), Tasha Shirley-Anne Baker (Tyler), James Thomas Earl Baker (Alydia), Georgia Gail Baker (Eric), Nicholas Harry Baker (Iana), Aidan McKinnon (Cody), Glen McKinnon (Ashley), Aaron Peter Skye, Evan Riley Skye, Wyatt Arthur Ross Skye; great grandchildren Myles Mansouri, Kiarah Lemyre, Aaliyah Lymyre, Cade Wentzell, Jett Wentzell, Riley McKinnon, Logan McKinnon, Emberleigh Baker, Kade Baker, Crew Baker; sister Kathryn Barbara Baseden (William), In-Laws Gary Baker, Laura Schwoob, Mona Mcbean, Hugh Baker (Kelly); and many loving nieces, nephews, relatives and dear friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Chief Joe Mathias Centre, 100 Capilano Road in North Vancouver on Wednesday, September 4, 2024 at 10:00 am. A livestream link is available for the service: https://funeraweb.tv/en/diffusions/97171. A luncheon will follow the service.
