José Gabriel Luís de Lima, the third of five children, son of Maria de Jesus Luiz and José Barcelos de Lima was born on 1954 July 13 in Terceira Island in Azores Portugal. He died at Saint Paul's Hospital Vancouver BC on 2013 April 18.
He left behind four sons and five grand-children living in Ottawa; his 83-years-old mother, a brother and three sisters all living in Portugal.
He moved to Canada at the age of 24 with his wife and three kids: Paulo, Herberto and Jorge. He lived in Calgary for quite a few years where his last son Christopher James was born.
He was a hard worker always struggling to provide his family the best.
He loved cooking and so cooking was what he did for living for many years. In Calgary, where he first started, he worked at Romeo and Julietta, a famous Italian Restaurant at the time.
Chef Joe Lima became an expert on Italian food.
From 1996 thru 2000 he was Executive Chef at Pemberton Hotel. Later on he worked at Bortolo Restaurant located at West Vancouver. By the time the owners decided to return to Italy he bought this restaurant, however due to serious illness he had to close it.
Any time he had a chance to travel back to his beloved country he used to cook for the family, both: portuguese and italian dishes.
He had a great sense of humor. He loved laughing. This said he took great pleasure in listening and telling jokes.
As a young boy he was always carrying a drawing pad and a pencil. He's dream was becoming an architect. He also loved writing poems that he would have posted on local newspapers. Listening to music was one of his passions and Fado was his favorite kind of music.
A very private man, this kind guy always had a nice big smile for everybody.
José Lima a Humble and Honest MAN!
