The one who flew with the birds left this world on December 25, 2022. John Malkin, known by most as Johnny, was happiest when he was running and raising money for charity. His desire to help others was always present — even when he had so little to give himself. In his younger days, he loved to travel the world and explore other cultures and was most enamored with Egypt. His cooking skills brought lots of joy to him and others who dined at his table.
Johnny grew up in the County of Glengarry outside Alexandria, Ontario on Cedar Craig Farm. Here, he attended Glengarry High where he received many awards for his athletic ability in soccer and track & field. When the family moved west to Alberta, he started his career with Pacific Western in Calgary, which became Canadian Airlines, before continuing his work in the aviation sector with Air Canada. He transferred early in his career continuing his journey west settling in White Rock, BC where he lived most of his adult life and for the last 13 years with his dear friend, Don.
His parents Nancy (Alastair) and siblings, Nancy-Ann (Clint), Jim— his twin — (Jeanie), Kate (Laurie), Bruce, Keith (Carroll), and Grant (Andrea), and many nieces and nephews mourn his passing. He is pre-deceased by his father, John.
Johnny was a charismatic, likeable, caring, and kind soul who wrestled with mental health issues. We hope his spirit of giving continues to live on through his family and those he struck up conversations with everywhere he went. May he rest in peace and be free like a bird.
