‘Wendy’
Sunrise: February 26, 1952 - Sunset: May 29, 2020
On behalf of Council, Band Manager, and Member Services we extend our sincere condolences to the Ring/Cagey & Joseph/Newman and Eckert families. It is with great sadness we advise Janice Elaine Eckert (nee Joseph) passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on May 29, 2020 at Eslha7an IR no. 1 – she bravely battled breast cancer over the past few years. Janice was fondly known as ‘Wendy’. She was born to her mother Shirley (nee Joseph) and father Jack Cagey of Lummi, Wa, USA on February 26, 1952 at St. Paul’s Hospital.
She grew up at Eslha7an on Mission IR No. 1 and in East Vancouver. In her younger years with her parents, Shirley and Lennart Ring, she resided in Butedale on Princess Royal Island, BC which is now a ghost town where her father & grandfather were loggers. Wendy studied nursing at Langara and Douglas Community Colleges and proudly worked at Royal Columbian Hospital, Vancouver General and Squamish Nation’s Home and Community Care Program. Her hobbies; were many, but she loved to weave, sew and was excellent in floral arrangements. Wendy loved family and community and was an adoring daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, auntie and friend. She will be deeply missed.
Janice is survived by her loving mother Shirley Esther Ring (nee Joseph); dear friend Randall Douglas Eckert (Eva); siblings Kenneth Nils Ring (Lori), Lennard Alexander Ring, Judith Anne Ring, Lori Christine Wyant; children Jennifer Lynn Eckert, Joshua Kevin Eckert (Jen), Sarah Pauline Sylva (JP), Kimberly Dawn Eckert; grandchildren: Amanda, Westley, Cameron, Ben, Donna; and many loving relatives and dear friends.
We understand this is a difficult time for families and relatives and that many people would have liked to attend but at this time it is impossible due to the COVID-19 Pandemic.
We will be hosting a ‘Celebration of Life’ later at which time we will finish our work with handshakes and traditional practices.
