Jim was very much loved and will be missed by his wife and daughter, Lajla and Roberta (Matthew), his grandson, Anson, his niece and nephews, David Bird (Faye), Karen Gill (Sat), and Michael Bird (Francesca), his great-nieces and nephews, Devon, Brayden, Rebekah, Autumn and Thatcher, and his cousins, Dian, Andrea, Ryan and Christina, Elizabeth (Brad), Jordan, Liam, and Jessica, Douglas (Lillian), Kristin (Joe), Caelyn and Cameron, and Michelle (Grant), Dakota and DJ, and his stepson’s children and grandchildren in Denmark...and all his crows.
He was predeceased by his stepson, Kenneth, his sister and brother-in-law, Margaret (Frank), his parents, Jeffrey and Helen, his aunts and uncle, Isabel “Billy”, Jean, Mary, Robert, and Margaret, and his cousin Clint.
Jim was born in Vancouver in 1933 and lived in his family’s home from the day it was built in 1935 until his death. He loved his neighbourhood and became quite the city historian for his family. He learned to drive at the Vernon Army Cadet Camp while he was a member of the 72nd Seaforth Army Cadet Corps. His love of boats started early and he owned a few in his lifetime. After he became an electrician, it wasn’t long before he merged his skills with his passion for boats and he worked in the marine industry for the remainder of his career, retiring in 1996. Since then, he has enjoyed being exceptionally social, taking a genuine interest in every new person he met, and visiting with his many friends and family regularly. Above all else, he was the most honest and humble man with the strongest sense of integrity that will be part of his legacy.
The family would like to express our since gratitude to the staff at WorkSafe, Tall Tree Physiotherapy, and Classic Life Care for their compassion and outstanding support to Jim in his last years.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, 03 November and 11 am at the Hamilton Harron Funeral Home, 5390 Fraser Street.
In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to Providence Health Care or the Seaforth Foundation cadet fund in memory of Jim.
