Born – Regina, Saskatchewan on Nov. 19, 1920
Predeceased by Grandson, Joel; Survived by his High School sweetheart June, who he called his beautiful wife, daughters Valerie and Jacki.
Jack passed away peacefully in his sleep from natural causes at home on November 10, 2013 just before his 93rd birthday.
Jack served his Country in the RCAF following which he started his long and rewarding teaching career.
Jack was known for being a though guy, a true athlete, a boxer, and “unique” and fair to his students.
Jack was a great lover of physical fitness and taught phys. ed. for many years. Jack encouraged students to come in early before school at Windermere and Tupper High to the weight room. He took pride in the many, many great students he taught throughout his 35 years of teaching. His soccer Team, at Britannia High won first place along with his Viennese Waltz Dancing Team at Burnaby South and Kitsilano High.
One of Jack’s life highlights was being the Trainer for the Vancouver Canadians Pacific Coast Soccer League Team when they won the JF Kennedy Cup Finalist Trophy in LA in 62/63.
History, Economics, and Law were his final classes at Sir Charles Tupper High School.
Many a favorite song was sung by Jack and he enjoyed playing the piano for friends, neighbors
and family, a love of boxing, plus Jack had a strong daily regime at his home gym.
Into his 80’s, Jack was still lifting 300 pound weights, along with 100 pushups and 100 sit ups every morning and pedaling his exercise bike daily up until he passed.
Many true and humorous stories were told to any and all who would sit with him and pass the time.
Jack, in his retirement years, enjoyed meeting and regular phone chats with the many former students he taught, along with family in England. He also loved his home, growing tomatoes every year including 2013, going out for weekly family dinners and coffee at Oakridge with friends, travelling and gambling.
This summer Jack was treated to a luncheon by 12 former students at Nick’s Spaghetti House where they enjoyed a great lunch and scotch.
A point of interest in Jack’s dancing lessons with June Roper’s Co., his partner was Peggy Middleton, known today as the famous actress Yvonne De Carlo.

A tea will be held to honour Jack’s memory on Saturday, Dec 7th 3:00 – 5:00ish, at the family home. Please come and share your stories with us, as he had a great life!
