‘Momma Bear’

It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of our dear mother, grandmother, great grandmother Heather Anne Baker. Heather descends from Squamish Nation’s Baker /Jim & Johnston/Jack families. She was born August 23, 1962 to her proud parents Hazel and Thomas Baker; surrounded by love of family and friends she passed away peacefully on January 20, 2019 at Lions Gate Hospital in North Vancouver. She was 56 years young.
Heather grew up on Mission IR No. 1 and briefly attended St. Paul’s Indian Day School. She moved on to Queen Mary Elementary School and St. Thomas Aquinas Secondary School, and was a long time employee of Squamish Nation Registry and Ayas Men Men. She also worked for INAC. Heather’s hobby was beading and she took that one step further and ran and operated her own beading business. Heather had knowledge in our traditional and cultural beliefs and adamantly passed this on to her children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She will best be remembered for her huge love for family and friends. She had such a big heart and love for everyone.
Heather Bear is survived by her loving husband James Boulette; children Trevor Baker (Candace), Stephanie George (Brandon), Bo Baker & Alex Fontaine; Grandchildren Kyrel, Kane, Luka, Emily, Trevor II, Isabella, Alexis & Aiden; Sibling Karen, William (Daneen), Bonita (Manuel), Thomas, Victoria (Robert); nieces & nephews Shannon, Casey, David, Henry, Sherry, William, Kirk, Craig, Llewellyn, Christopher, Caroline, Thomas, Nicholas, Heather, Bret, Ivy, Warren, Katrina, Lynn; grandnieces & nephews Sarai, Ayaysha, Allan, Jaiden, Carter, Theiren, Leighton, Talan, Litonya, Erin, Axel, Elizabeth, Hazel, Emery, Saryn, Silas, Sophia & Henry; great grand nephew Kameron & niece Isabelle; special mom Jean Boulette; aunties Rose Johnston, June Baker, Joan Peters (Roddy), Debbie Henderson; special auntie Alfreda Nahanee (nee: Thorne); special sisters Barbara Baker, Nora Rocha, Dee McHugh, Faye Yelton and Laurine Daniels; special son Donald Schwoob and special nephew Richard Henderson; many many loving relatives and dear friends.
A prayer service will be held on Wednesday, January 23 at 7:00 pm at St. Paul’s Indian Catholic Church, 424 West Esplanade, North Vancouver; and a funeral service will also be held on January 24 at 10:00 am at Chief Joe Mathias Centre, 100 Capilano Road, North Vancouver, BC.
