It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gordon Kou Ping Fong. He passed away peacefully on Monday June 12, 2023 at the age of 84. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.
Gordon was born and raised in Suva, Fiji together with his two brothers and three sisters. In 1965, he travelled by boat to Vancouver where he would meet his beloved wife Siu Mui – this was an arranged marriage having only met through a photo. They were married in 1971 and had two children.
He worked at Nabob Foods making tea and coffee and in later years, joined the stewarding department of the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver where he would later retire. Gordon was a selfless, kind-hearted gentleman who always cared for and looked after others before himself. Whether from the newspaper, TV or radio, he was always up to date on the latest news, sports and weather and loved to engage in conversations about them. Most of all, Gordon enjoyed spending time with his family and sharing delicious meals together.
Gordon is predeceased by his mother, father and eldest sister. He will be greatly missed and live on forever in the hearts of his loving wife Siu Mui, son Peter (daughter-in-law Annie), daughter Susan (son-in-law Michael) and grand-children - Grayson, Samantha, Jaime and Austin.
Memorial donations may be made to the Burnaby Hospital Foundation, who have cared for him countlessly over the years.
