September 25, 1932 - November 27, 2022
VAUGHT, Emilia (“Amelia”) Joan, known to her friends as “Amy”, passed away on November 27, 2022, in Vancouver, aged 90. She is predeceased by her husband Dean Vaught (1989), her father Dimitro, and her mother Anne. She is survived by her sister Zenovia, brother Myron, nephew Keith (Helen) and niece Tanya.
Amy was born and raised in Winnipeg. She enjoyed extracurricular social activities, and belonged to various athletic associations including the Winnipeg Ski Club. After working for the Manitoba Government, Amy followed her dream to move to California. She worked in various roles for private and government entities in California, including Global Marine. At the time of her retirement, she was with the State of California – Board of Equalization.
Amy met Dean in the US. After marrying, they purchased land near Lancaster California, and built a ranch which they were fond of. After retiring, Amy moved back to Canada and settled in Vancouver. Though happy to be back in Canada near her family and friends, Amy deeply missed her husband Dean and the good times they shared.
Amy had an independent and determined spirit that helped guide her through life. While she always knew what was right for her, she was genuinely interested in the views and opinions of others. She enjoyed social visits and conversing, whether it was with family, friends, co-workers or neighbors. Amy was thoughtful and considerate of others, and a pleasure to be with.
A memorial service will be held at Pacific Spirit United Church, 2195 West 45th Ave, Vancouver, on Saturday, January 28th at 1 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations in Amy’s memory to the Canadian National Institute for the Blind.
