Elsie Sevim Yucesoy

It is with deep sadness we advise of the passing of our dear Elsie Sevim Yucesoy. Elsie descends from the Clayton/Martin, Barton family of Laxgalts'ap, British Columbia and the Yucesoy/Yarkin families of Istanbul, Turkey. Elsie was born to her parents Stephanie and Tarik on June 27, 1995 in Vancouver, British Columbia and passed away at home in Vancouver on March 24, 2019 – she was 23 years of age.

Elsie was raised in Vancouver’s east side and Burnaby in BC. She attended École Inman Elementary School in Burnaby; Sir William MacDonald Elementary School in Vancouver; Windermere Secondary School Fine Arts Program; and graduated from Britannia Secondary School in 2013. Elsie’s interests were in family law and she was accepted into the Douglas College Legal Studies Program where and studied 2 years before health concerns became evident. Elsie had a special love for children and as a youth she volunteered at New Beginnings Baptist Church as a youth worker; worked as a kid’s camp leader with children at the Aboriginal Friendship Centre; and was an assistant at Daycare Centre in Burnaby.

At a very young age and into her youth years Elsie played soccer with her team known as the Little Rascals with Burnaby Girls Soccer Club. At the age of 3 she began her study at Douglas Ballet Academy and continued for 15 years; and she was also proud of her Nisga’a heritage and was a member of the Nisga’a Ts’amiks, Kwhlii Gibaygum Nisga'a and Lax Kxeen Ts'imshian Dance Groups, dance was Elise's love.

Elsie is survived by her loving mom Stephanie Lynn Martin; father Tarik Yucesoy; Sister Standish Falicity Olivia Gloren Martin; brothers Omer Tarik Eric Yucesoy, Baris Can Yucesoy, Dillon & Kevin; nieces Kiersten Aleciya Paris Leeson, Ashlyn Bella Martin-Watts, and Alia Avrille Raine Martin-Watts; aunts & uncles Debbie Stevens (Peter), Erica Grant (Grant), Zelda Komurcu (Vince), Alvin Martin (Cheryl), Leo Barton, Danny Martin, Claude Barton (Tanya), Paula Martin (Earl), Clint Barton (Crystal), Doreen McKay (Rob), Sheldon Martin (Christine); and special auntie Sherry Barton; Cousins (brothers & sisters) Sam, Sebastian, Theodore, William, Delvina, Daniel (Crystal), Dakota (Genevie), Darnell (Lucy), Duncan, Tristan (Carissa), Brooklyn, Alvin Jr., Barrett, Kayla, Jamica (Jalen), Claude Jr., Ethan, Diandra (Hyram), David, Kelli, Keenan & Regan; Jennifer (Frankie), Isabel, Carri, Carl (Chelsea), Jordan, Donovan, Vanessa (Nate); and dear friend Desmond Shum; and many, many Grandaunts & Uncles, Grandnieces & nephews, loving relatives and dear friends.
