It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, and Sister. Elizabeth was born in Bredtheim, a rural farming community in Poland on October 23, 1927. She was born to Jakob and Karoline Wilhelm after which her younger brother Otto came into the world 4 years later. As the war ended, the Wilhelm family looked around at their devastated community, and like so many others, made the decision to uproot from all they knew and move to Canada. Elizabeth knew going with her family was the right thing to do but by now there was a certain community member to whom she had taken a shine, a young fellow named Henry Grimm. Henry and Elizabeth discussed the idea of her going and him following later, which clearly took place.
Caring for a family was Mum’s hallmark. Whether for the love of her parents, her beloved husband Henry, her sons and wives, her grandchildren, and latterly her great-grandson, supporting and loving her family was what made her happy. Mum did it all with focus, devotion, and baking! Always with baking!
Elizabeth was loving, loyal, and devoted. As well, she possessed a fiercely determined streak that ensured she would have things go her way! Mum lived a full, rich life, laughing and joking with us right to her last few days.
We have been enriched forever by her love and will miss her immensely. We pray she is now reunited with her beloved Henry, taking over heaven’s kitchen for another round of kuchen. She is survived by sons Harry (Deborah), Robert (Linda), grandchildren Spencer (Clementine), Kelsey (Trevor), William, Matthew (Alyssa), and Sarah (Brayden), and great-grandchild Grayson. She will always be loved and missed but never forgotten. We would like to thank the staff and support team at Crofton Manor, Rehab on the Move, and Verity Health Services for the care they so graciously provided. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the charity of your choice in honour of Elizabeth would be appreciated. A memorial service will be held at Martin Luther Church, located at 505 East 46th Avenue, Vancouver on Monday, May 23rd at 10:30 am, with internment and refreshments to follow.
